Bernie Kerik to Newsmax TV: Portland Police Held Back From Doing Jobs

(Newsmax TV's "The Chris Salcedo Show")

Portland's city police officers and the Oregon State Police want to do their jobs and secure the city as it enters its third month of violent clashes, but leaders there are holding them back, former New York City Police Department Commissioner Bernie Kerik told Newsmax TV on Monday.

"They have to let them loose and let them do the job," Kerik told "The Chris Salcedo Show." "Give them the backing, give them the manpower, give them the training, let them go do what they do and they'll secure the area."

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump and acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf will not be pulling federal officers out of Portland until there is security on the ground and the city has secured the federal courthouse, Kerik added to host Chris Salcedo.

"The unfortunate thing is I talk to the Portland cops on a daily basis . . . it's not them that's not doing the job, it's their leadership," Kerik said. "It's the mayor; it's the governor."

Meanwhile, in Minneapolis, where the death of George Floyd under the knee of a policeman sparked the nationwide protests in most major cities this summer, city residents are being told not to carry cash and to do whatever criminals tell them to do, Salcedo said – and Kerik commented such an action is "Joe Biden's Democratic Party's manifesto."

"That's what it is because every one of these cities that are run by Democrats, that is the same course of instruction they're gonna have to give every one of these cities," Kerik added. "They don't have the leadership to do the job that has to be done to secure the city, so that's their manifesto, and I urge Democrats, I urge citizens of those cities, and the others like them, take a look at it. If this is the way you want to live so be it. If not, you better vote these people out of office."

Kerik also commented on the growing crime in New York City, after reports indicated more people have already been killed in the city as of August than in all of 2019.

"There were about 110 or 120 people shot in the last two weeks, and none of those people were shot by a cop," Kerik said. "Cops aren't the problem, it's the thugs, it's Black Lives Matter, it's antifa, it's these radical lunatics that Mayor [Bill] de Blasio is doing nothing about in fact."

De Blasio does support the groups that are causing trouble, and the protesters, and Kerik said the city will just get worse if he does not leave the mayor's office.
