Kerik to Newsmax: FBI Correct to Hack Into San Bernardino Shooter's iPhone

By    |   Tuesday, 29 March 2016 07:14 PM EDT

The FBI was correct to hack into the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino shooters without Apple Inc.'s help, former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

"The FBI's argument to get into the phone was extremely important," Kerik, who oversaw the city's forces during the 9/11 attacks, told "Newsmax Now" host John Bachman. "It was just justified.

"Like anything else, you get a warrant, you go before a judge, you justify your desire to get into the phone legally — and a judge gives you an order to get in there," he said. "If the phone is created in a way where it's locked down — and the only people that can get in there is Apple, I don't see a problem with going to the court, getting a warrant, and having a judge give you the authorization to go in and get the information you need."
