Dr. Ben Carson tells Newsmax TV that he would talk to Kanye West after the rap-music star described the Republican presidential candidate as "the most brilliant guy" in a recent Vanity Fair interview.

"I appreciate his kind words as I would anyone's kind words," Carson told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth. "I hope that he and some of the other pop-cult people will begin to start thinking about how their influence can be used in a positive way to uplift the communities that are influenced by them."

West, who declared his candidacy for the White House in 2020 at the MTV Video Music Awards last month, praised Carson in the magazine interview.

"As soon as I heard Carson speak, I tried for three weeks to get on the phone with him," West said. "I was, like, this is the most brilliant guy."

Carson told Hayworth that he found West "to be a very intelligent individual who has a very good business head on him — and, yes, I would be willing to talk to him."
