Barney Frank: Hillary So-Called Scandals 'Yet to Produce Any Fire'

By    |   Monday, 01 Jun 2015 05:58 PM

Former U.S. Rep. Barney Frank is standing firmly behind Hillary Clinton — telling Newsmax TV that allegations of misconduct that have been hurled at the former secretary of state over the years are being produced by "smoke machines" and are baseless.

"In the 1990s, I was in the Congress and I listened to all those Republican allegations," Frank said Monday to Ed Berliner, host of "The Hard Line."

"And [I] heard Kenneth Starr [who investigated the Clintons as part of the Ethics in Government Act] in 1998 admit that there was no basis to any of the allegations against Hillary Clinton. Not Whitewater, not the FBI files, not the tribal office, not Vince Foster."

Frank, an influential Massachusetts Democrat, was referring to Bill and Hillary Clintons’ investment in a land deal called Whitewater, and the suicide of Vince Foster, a White House attorney and former law partner of Hillary Clinton in 1993.

More recently, Clinton, who is running for the 2016 Democratic nomination for president, has been dogged by investigations into her actions before and after the 2012 Benghazi attack and her use of a personal email account and server to conduct government business while secretary of state.

Frank doesn't buy any of the accusations.

"I believe, in fact, what you have are a series of smoke machines that have yet to produce any fire," Frank told Berliner.
