Islamic Activist Refuses to Denounce Tunisia Beach Slaughter

Wednesday, 01 Jul 2015 04:24 PM

Notorious Islamic activist Anjem Choudary repeatedly refused to condemn the slaughter of 38 tourists on a Tunisia Beach — including 30 of his fellow British countrymen — during an explosive debate with Newsmax TV's Steve Malzberg.

Asked over and over whether he would denounce last week's bloodbath launched by terrorists affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS), Choudary, a London-based lecturer on Sharia law, deflected — and he went on to blame the U.S. and other nations for triggering violence in the Middle East.

"I don't go down this road of condemnation or condoning. We should talk about the root causes because what you saw the other day in Tunisia sadly is happening on a daily basis in Syria, Iraq," Choudary said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"Drones are killing innocent people, hitting weddings, hitting funerals. This is something that we see on a daily basis. Nobody asks about condemnation for those, do they really?"
Choudary said the tourists targeted were from countries such as Britain and France, both of which he insisted were killing Muslims on a daily basis.

"The French and British and other forces are occupying Muslim land and they're killing them on their own soil. Obviously, there's an uprising taking place. At the current time in the Muslim world, there's instability and my message is very clear," he said.

"The instability in Muslim countries is something which is caused by the presence of foreign forces and this, as a consequence, causes insecurity for the civilians of those very countries who are engaged in war with Muslims.

"The fact is these people in Tunisia on the beach weren't targeted because they were laying naked and drinking alcohol … What ISIS has said is … that these people were targeted because they are the civilians from the regimes who are killing Muslims."

The United States is on high alert over the Fourth of July weekend for potential terrorist attacks, particularly in high-population areas like New York City.

Asked by Malzberg if he thought the U.S. deserved to be attacked, Choudary again deflected on the question.

"Most Americans will understand that the reason why you have a very high security status at the current time is because you've been throwing bricks at other people," he said.

Choudary, an Islamic activist who is based in London and was once arrested for allegedly "encouraging" terrorism, is well known for making incendiary statements. During an interview earlier this year on the Malzberg show, he pointedly asked the host whether he was Jewish.
