Gov. Andrew Cuomo is ostensibly finished in New York – as his state is "a disaster" – and he will try to do a "rope-a-dope" to take the punches and run out the clock on his own accountability, according to political pundit Bill O'Reilly on Newsmax TV.
"He's basically trying to last it out," O'Reilly told Monday's "The Chris Salcedo Show." "Now, I don't think he's going to run again for a fourth term in 2022, when he's up, because the state is falling apart.
"It's falling apart criminal justice-wise, fiscally, health-wise. I mean, it's a disaster, and it's on his watch.
"But he's going to try to kind of do the rope-a-dope thing here, see if he can get by it, and coast and see what happens after that."
Cuomo's administration is under fire for misleading the media and state lawmakers on the extent of the deaths stemming from his mandate last spring for nursing homes to take in COVID-19 positive patients.
Cuomo stepped to the mic Monday to show his "slight of hand" on how he "parses it," but no one is going to buy what he is selling, according to O'Reilly.
"New Yorkers and people across the country know Gov. Cuomo is being disingenuous – let me use that word; I think that's fair," O'Reilly told guest host Carl Higbie. "He did it, and they should just admit that they did it because they didn't want to be embarrassed.
"He'll never do that. His ego's too big for that.
"But his own party knows it. The attorney general of New York, who's as far left as you can get, she knows it."
Still, it is tough luck, New York, because Cuomo is not going to face Justice Department scrutiny under President Joe Biden, O'Reilly said.
"The DOJ going after Cuomo? That'll never happen; in a million years, they would never do that," O'Reilly concluded. "State of New York, lawsuits, things like that, they could make his life uncomfortable, but the feds aren't going to get involved in it."
