Jeffrey Lord: Franken Should Have Fought Calls to Resign

Columnist Jeffrey Lord on Tuesday said Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., should "stand up on his hind legs on fight," during an interview with Newsmax TV host Bill Tucker on "Newsmax Now."

Lord, who writes for the American Spectator, brought up Franken while discussing Roy Moore's election with Tucker.

"I think the very first thing that's going to happen within 24 hours if Roy Moore wins is that the Democrats will have a fundraising letter out there making Roy Moore the face of the Republican Party," Lord told Tucker.

Moore's campaign has been battling allegations of sexual misconduct since mid-November. The Republican candidate is running against Democrat Doug Jones and the election is taking place Tuesday.

Franken last week announced his resignation following a wave of sexual misconduct allegations and a collapse of support from Democratic colleagues.

"I mean what is Al Franken supposed to say now?" Lord said. "The people of Alabama have elected Roy Moore so he has to go? Somewhere I have to think Al Franken is thinking this is a little on the unfair side that he's being dumped overboard by his own folks.

"If I were him I stand up on my hind legs and fight. He just got reelected by the people of Minnesota. And there's where the problem comes with this. At the end of the day every United States senator – and House member for that matter and governor – is subjected to the will of the people. In Donald Trump's case, they are bringing out these women again. All of this was known before the election and people made him president anyway."

Lord during the interview also said sexual misconduct allegations lodged against Trump will not present a problem for the president because "they were all out there before the election. His problems were out there, her problems were out there, and the American people made their decision.

"If, on the other hand, there had never been a single peep about this and now they were coming out that would be a problem, but I just don't see it, because the American people knew it going into this and this was their decision."
