Zeldin: Radical House Dems Delayed Anti-Semitism Resolution

By    |   Wednesday, 06 March 2019 10:45 AM EST

"Radical elements" of the Democratic conference have put a planned resolution condemning anti-Semitism on hold while a "watered-down" version that doesn't mention Rep. Ilhan Omar by name is put forward, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi won't be removing her from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Lee Zeldin said Wednesday.

"It will be watered down because according to the most radical elements of her conference, it went too far," the New York Democrat told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "They are using tactics of distraction and diversion to talk about other topics than anti-Semitism, so that is unfortunate."

Omar, after making statements criticized for being against Israel and anti-Semitic, should not have been appointed to the committee in the first place, said Zeldin. Also, he said he has "no doubt" there is a double standard in play compared to the swift reaction members from both parties in the House took against Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, after comments about white supremacy.

"In January, it was a nearly unanimous vote condemning white supremacy," said Zeldin, noting that King was swiftly removed from committee assignments.

Meanwhile, Pelosi needs to lead her party, said Zeldin.

"The problem is, you have a few freshmen Democrats, in particular, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib and even Congresswoman Omar leading their party rather than being led by it. When AOC says she is the boss, it sure looks that way, when internal conference politics is resulting in pulling this resolution, not having a vote today, not naming names, and keeping her [Omar] on the committee."
