A random printing error in Los Angeles County resulted in more than 118,000 names being left off voter rolls during Tuesday's primary.

Provisional ballots were ordered handed out to every one of the 118,522 voters who showed up at their polling site but weren't able to cast a vote. However, that goal fell far short as voters called to complain throughout Tuesday afternoon, multiple outlets reported.

"Voters should be assured their vote will be counted," County Clerk Dean Logan said in a statement.

The lag in checking the provisional ballots will cause delays in the results of races in 1,530 of the 4,357 precincts, CNN reported.

"We are working to see what precincts are affected," Michael Sanchez, a spokesman with Los Angeles registrar, told CNN that the office had discovered a random printing error on the roster. "We don't know yet. We are still in the thick of it."

Former L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who's now a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, called on the county to keep the polls open longer in lieu of the gaffe.

"It should be infuriating to voters," the L.A. Times quoted Villaraigosa at his election night party. "You would expect that in the United States of America, in the county of Los Angeles, they would be able to conduct an election without there being problems of this magnitude."
