Pence, at Olympics, 'Appalled' at Porter Abuse Allegations

Vice President Mike Pence joined a growing chorus of people to condemn the allegations of domestic violence leveled at a now former White House aide during an interview at the Pyeongchang Olympics.

Pence sat down with NBC News' Lester Holt in South Korea for an interview slated to air later Friday. The network released a clip of Pence addressing the rocky week involving Rob Porter.

"I was appalled when I learned of the allegations against Rob Porter. The time that he resigned was when I first became aware of the allegations of domestic abuse," Pence said.

"There's no tolerance in this White House, and no place in America, for domestic abuse. That being said, I think the White House has acknowledged that they could have handled it better. And Lester, when I return to Washington, D.C., I'm going to look into the matter and I'll share my counsel with the president directly."

Porter resigned as White House staff secretary Wednesday after reports came out that he had allegedly been verbally and physically abusive with his two ex-wives. A photo of one of the women with a black eye was published Wednesday in The Daily Mail.

It was reported Friday afternoon that Kelly offered to resign over his handling of the story, which involved multiple statements and an alleged Friday morning meeting with members of the West Wing staff.

Trump addressed the story by wishing Porter well in his post-White House career.
