In turbulent Venezuela, "Game of Thrones" rings true.

Some fans of the series in politically and economically torn Venezuela see President Nicolás Maduro as the villainous Night King, and opposition leader Juan Guaidó as the good-hearted Jon Snow, the Miami Herald reported.

"It is as if Maduro and his people are the Night King and his fellow White Walkers who want to turn all of us Venezuelans into their wights," Paola Grateol, 22, of Maracay, told the Herald.

In the lexicon of "Game of Thrones, the Night King along with other fellow White Walkers lead a band of zombies called wights who've been reanimated by the Night King's magical powers.

"Just like all the noble Houses in the series are uniting against the White Walkers, we, in Venezuela, are doing the same," Caracas bar owner Omar Bartolozzi, 44, told the Herald. "We are getting together to beat the dictatorship."

And one of the most popular characters of the show, Jon Snow, seems to be a proper stand-in for Guaidó, the Herald reported.

"We can say that Jon Snow is our Guaidó," Bartolozzi told the Herald. "They are both very popular. Jon Snow should win the Iron Throne. It is his time."

Some fans in Venezuela also see the fantasy tale as a reflection of their everyday life — and its characters as mirrors of Venezuela's political leaders.

"The Venezuelan state is like King's Landing under the reign of King Joffrey [Baratheon]. Just like Venezuela, his seven kingdoms are a world of looting, death, destruction and chaos," Diosmer Vera, 19, of Puerto Ordaz, told the Herald.

Rogelio Altez, who teaches history at Central University of Venezuela, said Venezuelan culture has been particularly influenced by images.

"It goes to the phenomenon of Messiah," he said. "The Venezuelan society demands it. That is why the anti-Chávez figure must be a sort of savior just like [late president Hugo] Chávez was for his supporters."
