The FBI received a chilling call in early January warning that Nikolas Cruz — who police say shot dead 17 at a Florida high school last week — was seriously disturbed and ready to explode.

A transcript of the call, made by a woman close to Cruz and excerpted in Friday's Wall Street Journal, is a further indication that the FBI was aware of his mental condition but took no action.

The caller says she is concerned Cruz will "get into a school and just shoot the place up … You know, it's just so much. I know he's — he's going to explode."

She adds she is informing the FBI because she wants a "clear conscience if he takes off and, and just starts shooting places up."

Cruz is charged with opening fire with an AR-15 at the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on Valentine's Day.

She says Cruz stated he "wants to kill people," and had cut up a bird on his mother's kitchen table. She also says Cruz dressed up as a ninja or an ISIS fighter.
