Twitter has been issuing advertisers refunds after its Android app inflated video advertising metrics by up to 35 percent between November 7 and December 12, resulting in overbilling on video ad campaigns.

"We recently discovered a technical error due to a Twitter product update to Android clients that affected some video ad campaigns from November 7 to December 12," a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement, reports Business Insider. "Once we discovered the issue, we resolved it and communicated the impact to affected partners. Given this was a technical error, not a policy or definition issue, we are confident it has been resolved."

Advertisers were notified earlier this week about the glitch, which came as the social media site is coming under pressure to increase its ad business. In addition, the site's user growth has stalled, and buyers such as Disney are backing out of negotiations, reports Business Insider.

Between the second and third quarters of this year, only about four million more active users signed onto the website. In addition, several of its high-profile executives have left Twitter, including longtime COO Adam Bain, and 9 percent of the company's global workforce was laid off in October, including a team behind the Vine app.
