Trump Slams National Review, Noonan, Will for Not Seeing 'Potential Greatness of Our Country'

Former President Donald Trump criticized three nominally conservative pundits as well as National Review magazine on Sunday following their recent dismissive pieces of the former president.

Trump excoriated Peggy Noonan, columnist for The Wall Street Journal and former speech writer for President Ronald Reagan; Rich Lowry, editor of National Review; and George Will, columnist for the Washington Post.

"I listen to all of these foolish (stupid!) people, often living in a bygone era, like the weak and frail RINO, Peggy Noonan, who did much less for Ronald Reagan than she claims, and who actually said bad things about him and his ability to speak, or Rich Lowry, who has destroyed the once wonderful and influential National Review, the pride and joy of the legendary William F. Buckley, or George Will, whose mind is decaying with hatred and envy before our very eyes, or Jonah Goldberg and Stephen Hayes, two people who are finally out of the conversation and of no relevance whatsoever,” Trump wrote in a press release distributed by his Save America PAC.

“Where do these people come from?"

Trump's statement followed Noonan’s Thursday column in The Wall Street Journal, where she suggested the Republican Party base was rejecting Trump based on a poll that showed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis leading Trump by 2% in a potential 2024 New Hampshire GOP primary.

Other polls have shown Trump with significant leads in a head-to-head matchup. DeSantis is up for re-election as governor in Florida this year and neither have declared their candidacy for president.

National Review, which has been critical of Trump since 2015, published an editorial Saturday mocking Trump for claiming credit for Friday’s Dobbs decision by the U.S. Supreme Court which overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision and returned abortion regulation to the states.

Trump issued a statement following the release of the decision saying that he “delivered,” referring to the appointment of three justices, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, who voted to overturn Roe.

National Review called Trump “an opportunist who got out in front of the parade.”

As recently as March, Will  -- another unrelenting critic -- also claimed Trump was losing influence, calling him “a stray orange hair to be flicked off the nation’s sleeve.”

"[Noonan, Lowry, and Will] have no idea what the MAGA movement is, and even less of an understanding of America First, which is necessary, and even vital, to save our Country,” Trump wrote in his Sunday statement.

“People like these are nasty, jealous, not smart, and of no use to the potential greatness of our Country. They talk, they criticize, and they complain, but they don’t have the ability or talent to get anything done. They are shortsighted 'losers,' and will never understand what it takes to Make America Great Again!"

Conversely, Trump praised John Nolte for a column on Breitbart for his piece, which gave full recognition for the Dobbs decision to the former president.

"Thank you to John Nolte for truly understanding the way life works,” Trump wrote on a post on Trump’s Truth social media platform. This was not an easy thing to do, but I am very proud to have done it. Likewise, few would have had the courage to write about it. Thank you John!"
