The number of House Democrats calling for President Donald Trump's impeachment has risen to 174, with House Oversight Committee Chairman John Lewis, D-Ga., among the latest to come aboard Tuesday.

According to a Politico tally, 174 of the 235 House Democrats are on the impeachment bandwagon versus 61 who are not. The pro-impeachment figure also includes Rep. Justin Amash, a Michigan Republican-turned-independent.

No House Republicans support impeaching the president, according to Politico.

In a speech on the House floor, Lewis said that "now is the time to act" following the controversy surrounding a whistleblower's complaint involving President Trump.

"We cannot delay," Lewis said, NPR reports. "We must not wait.

"We will never find the truth unless we use the power given to the House of Representatives, and the House alone, to begin an official investigation as dictated by the Constitution.

"The future of our democracy is at stake," the civil-rights icon stalwart said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is expected to discuss the impeachment issue with fellow Democrats later Tuesday.
