Former Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., said Tuesday that intelligence officials should stop giving sensitive briefings to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who he said is “a leaker.”
Gowdy, who is now a Fox News contributor, told Sean Hannity on Tuesday that “No one is above the law, apparently except whoever leaks classified information out of Adam Schiff’s committee.”
The former congressman made the comments after reports emerged about a recent intel briefing about Russian efforts to help President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.
"What the intelligence committee needs to give some thought to is [to] stop briefing someone who has a history and is an epidemic leaker,” he added.
“Quit briefing him,” Gowdy said.
He recently told Fox News that he doubts that Moscow would prefer Trump to Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., a democratic socialist.
“No. 1: I don’t know anyone who really thinks that Russia prefers Donald Trump to win over ‘comrade’ Sanders,” Gowdy said. “I don’t know a soul that really thinks Russia wants Donald Trump to be the president instead of the guy that honeymooned in Russia.”
He added, “They gather information, and they make assessments. Then, they give those assessments, but, unfortunately, you give them to people like Adam Schiff, who leak like sieves. This never should have been made public, and that’s why the president is upset, not at what the intelligence community has found but the fact that Adam Schiff has a beeline to the New York Times when it’s negative information about Donald Trump.”
