President Donald Trump made the right decisions with his executive order barring U.S. companies from using technology from companies that pose a national security risk, putting Chinese telecommunications company Huawei on an entity list, as the company puts the United States and its allies security in danger, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said Thursday.

"Huawei is an arm of the Chinese Communist party, and massively subsidized," Sen. Cotton told Fox Business' "Mornings with Maria."

Cotton compared the use of Huawei technology to using steel from the Soviet Union during the Cold War, and said "we shouldn't rely on Chinese telecoms right now."

China, he added, has been a major "adversary" of the United States for decades, and Trump has helped many people in Washington wake up to that fact.

Cotton discussed the growing escalations between the U.S. and Iran, saying he thinks it is "somewhat strange" critics say Trump is trying to goad Iran into a war when the U.S. is sending resources into the region to try to deter Iran from taking provocative action.

He defended the decision to pull personnel staff from the embassy in Iraq, saying it is common procedure to do that when there are credible threats against U.S. personnel.

Cotton also talked about his book "Sacred Duty," which details his tour of duty at Arlington National Cemetery, noting the lessons he learned there can be applied to anyone striving to do their best while serving a higher cause.
