Texas health officials have delivered a final legal notice to defund Planned Parenthood from the Medicaid program through which it provides family planning and women's health services to the poor, The Washington Post reported.

The move came after more than a year of delays in dealing with the issue.

Planned Parenthood had previously received $3.1 million in Medicaid funding, but that money will now be stopped in 30 days.

Planned Parenthood officials say they will turn to the courts to block the cuts, telling The Texas Tribune that "Planned Parenthood continues to serve Medicaid patients and will seek a preliminary injunction in an ongoing lawsuit filed in November 2015, following the state’s original threats to take action against Planned Parenthood's patients."

Texas has been looking to completely remove Planned Parenthood from the state's Medicaid program since October of last year, after undercover videos were released that showed Planned Parenthood officials discussing the use of fetal tissue for research, the Dallas News reported.

At least 10 states have taken steps in an attempt to end Planned Parenthood funding from Medicaid in their states, which the Obama administration has fought against, according to the Washington Examiner.

Part of the efforts to prevent states from taking these actions came from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which sent a letter to state Medicaid directors in April warning them that trying to block Medicaid funds without sufficient evidence of misconduct could be illegal.
