Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., blasted President Donald Trump’s latest promise to get a wall built on the southern border.
Trump, in a speech in the White House Rose Garden on Friday announced the government would reopen through Feb. 15. He said a bipartisan committee of lawmakers would discuss the nation’s border security needs during that time period. In his remarks, Trump pushed again for the wall.
Lieu made his comments Friday on Twitter.
He wrote: “I cannot believe that @realDonaldTrump in his Rose Garden remarks THREATENED AGAIN TO SHUT DOWN OUR GOVERNMENT IN 3 WEEKS if he doesn't get his wall. It is quite perverse that the President repeatedly wants to use harming Americans in a shutdown as a negotiating tactic.”
