Tapwrit Wins Belmont Stakes

By    |   Saturday, 10 June 2017 06:55 PM EDT

Tapwrit, ridden by jockey Jose Ortiz, won the 2017 Belmont Stakes Saturday at Churchill Downs in Belmont, N.Y.

"It's a feeling I can't explain I'm very happy right now," Ortiz said after the race, adding that the horse's owners "always had a lot of faith in him."

Irish War Cry, who led the field for the majority of the race, finished second and one-eyed horse Patch finished in third place.

A Triple Crown was out of the picture this year and neither Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming nor Preakness Stakes winner Cloud Computing participated in Saturday's race.
