Former President Barack Obama continues to remain silent as Joe Biden faces allegations from certain women that he made them feel uncomfortable by touching them and encroaching on their personal space.
Obama has yet to mention the controversy his former vice president is facing or issue a statement of support. The allegations surfaced as Biden is considering entering the 2020 presidential race.
“President Obama thinks the world of him and thinks he'd be an excellent president,” one source close to the former president told The Hill. “President Obama is not going to be weighing in on the primary and the day-to-day stories around it. And Joe Biden would be the first to tell you that he'll have to earn the nomination on his own.”
Still, a number of Obama’s former advisers have come to Biden’s defense, The Hill noted.
In a Monday tweet, Susan Rice, Obama’s former national security adviser: called Biden “one of the most decent, honorable men I have been privileged to work with.”
And even Dana Perino, who served as White House press secretary for President George W. Bush, said Obama is doing the “right thing” by remaining mum on the issue.
“Biden has to prove that he can win this on his own,” she told Tucker Carlson on Fox News.” Imagine if Obama had to come out and save him now. Hundreds of more women could come out and say they have similar experiences with Joe Biden. He's been hugging people his whole life, is what he says.”
