Republicans hold a 4-point lead over Democrats on a generic congressional ballot for the upcoming election, according to the latest NBC News poll.
When asked which party they preferred to see win control of the Congress in November, 49% of respondents said Republicans and 45% said Democrats, the latest NBC News survey found.
That increased the GOP's November lead, which was 47% to 45%.
Republicans currently hold a 219-213 edge in the House with three vacancies.
A total of 41 current House members, including 23 Democrats, are not seeking reelection, Ballotpedia reported.
Republicans also are trying to turn a current 51-49 U.S. Senate minority into a majority.
When asked how they considered themselves regarding a "general approach to issues," 36% of respondents said "moderate" – by far the top choice.
The breakdown also included 19% of respondents saying they were very conservative, 18% saying they were somewhat conservative, 13% saying they were somewhat liberal, and 11% saying they were very liberal. Another 3% were not sure.
As for their economic circumstances, 43% of respondents said they were middle class, 27% said working class, 18% said upper middle class, 7% said they were poor, 3% well-to-do and 2% refused to say or were not sure.
The NBC News poll results released Sunday included much worrisome news for President Joe Biden and Democrats.
Biden hit another new low in his approval rating (37%), raising concern of the Democrat pollster, who said the "damning" results show "a presidency in peril."
Former President Donald Trump leads Biden by 5 points (47%-42%) in the national poll.
With national surveys showing immigration to be among the top issues, if not the No. 1 issue, for voters, NBC News found that 57% said Trump was better at securing the border compared to 22% who said Biden was better controlling immigration.
Despite his legal obstacles, Trump would remain within the margin of error in a matchup against Biden even if the former president is convicted of a crime.
The NBC News poll contributed to the GOPs 45.1% to 42.7% generic ballot lead in RealClear Polling's average of national surveys.
The NBC News poll was conducted Jan. 26-30 among 1,000 registered voters, with 52% women and 48% men.
