Scaramucci: Bannon Needs to 'Actually Apologize'

By    |   Sunday, 07 January 2018 03:40 PM

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon’s apology to President Donald Trump and his family Sunday regarding critical comments published in a new book on the Trump presidency was weak, former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci said on Fox News.

“It’s inside the red zone of an apology but he needs to cross into the goal line of an apology and actually apologize for what he did,” Scaramucci told Fox News host Howard Kurtz.

“I mean, the unprecedented access that they gave this guy, Michael Wolff, who is a non-fact checker and an actual liar, is ridiculous. He has to flat-out apologize rather than parse his words like that on Axios.”

In Michael Wolff’s book, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” released Friday, Bannon calls a Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a group of Russians “treasonous” and “unpatriotic.”

He also called Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and a White House adviser, “dumb as a brick.”

In a lengthy statement to Axios, Bannon called Donald Trump Jr. “a patriot and a good man,” and declared his own support as “unwavering for the president and his agenda.”

“I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don Jr. has diverted attention from the president's historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency,” Bannon said.

“He has been relentless in his advocacy for his father and the agenda that has helped turn our country around.”
