Over 100 economists and prominent conservative activists have signed a letter endorsing President Donald Trump's possible nomination to the Federal Reserve Board, The Hill reports.
"We, the undersigned, support Steve Moore's nomination to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve," the signatories wrote in a single-sentence statement.
Economist Arthur Laffer, Forbes Editor-in-Chief Steve Forbes, former Fed Vice Chairman Manley Johnson, and former President of the Federal Reserve of Atlanta Bill Ford are among the signatories.
Trump first announced in March he would nominate Moore, who acted as an economic adviser to Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. Critics of Moore's nomination, which include several Republicans in Congress and conservative economists, question whether he is qualified for the post.
"Steve is a perfectly amiable guy, but he does not have the intellectual gravitas for this important job," said Greg Mankiw, a Harvard economics professor and the former chair of former President George W. Bush's Council of Economic Advisers. He added "Moore should not be confirmed."
