The State Department warned the White House that there could be an uptick in threats at U.S. embassies after President Donald Trump retweeted three anti-Muslim videos Wednesday, CNN reported.

Embassies have been on alert, but so far there haven't been any incidents, CNN reports.

Trump retweeted three videos from a deputy leader of an extremist group called Britain First that purportedly showed Muslims committing acts of violence and smashing a statue of the Virgin Mary.

The videos, the veracity of which are unknown, contained no information, background or context, just the assertion of Jayda Fransen that the subjects in the videos were Muslims doing bad things.

The retweets drew swift condemnation around the globe, especially from the UK and Prime Minister Theresa May, but were defended by the White House and Trump.

"It didn't manifest in anything actionable, but it was a big concern," a State Department official told CNN. "We saw in Cairo and other places that simply posting something on the internet, even if nothing was intended by it, could have real consequences."
