The State Department confirmed Friday is has no plans to reopen the investigation into why portions of a video showing a 2013 press briefing were erased.

Despite a request from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee demanding answers to what happened, spokesman Mark Toner essentially said the case is closed.

"We believe we have conducted an inquiry into this incident," Toner said, according to The Hill. "We have exhausted our efforts to look into the incident and responsibility."

The department's inspector general, however, can still decide to further investigate.

The IG "will decide for itself whether it wants to look into this incident," Toner said.

The deleted video includes an exchange between Fox News reporter James Rosen and State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki regarding whether or not the Obama administration lied about conducting secret talks with Iran over its nuclear program.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman and Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry Thursday, asking for more information about the altered video. Chaffetz also wants to know if other recordings of press briefings have been edited.
