With Republicans seeking to retain control of the House, Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., announced a record-breaking total of campaign funds raised in the third quarter.
Johnson raised $27.5 million during from July to September. His team said the amount was a record for a Republican speaker during that period of time in a presidential year, Punchbowl News reported.
"In less than one year as Speaker, I'm thankful that we have been able to build a team and set new fundraising records that will ensure House Republicans can keep and grow our majority," Johnson posted on X with a link to a Washington Examiner story about the fundraising.
"Now with less than one month until the most important election of our lifetimes, another strong quarter shows voters are motivated down the stretch and ready to elect Republicans up and down the ballot to fix our economy, secure the border, and restore peace through strength."
The third-quarter total included more than $19.4 million for Johnson's fundraising committees and $8.1 million for individual members and candidates, Punchbowl News reported.
Since winning the speakership last year, Johnson has transferred more than $26 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee.
The House GOP leadership-aligned super PAC, the Congressional Leadership Fund, reported raising $81 million during the third quarter. That means the combined efforts of Johnson and CLF raised more than $100 million during the quarter.
Johnson has traveled to more than 210 cities in 40 states in support of GOP candidates, and he's expected to visit 24 states this month, Punchbowl News said.
Democrats also had a successful third quarter. Their outside fundraising group, the House Majority PAC, exceeded the CLF's numbers during the quarter by raising $99 million, including $69 million in September the Examiner reported.
Combined House super PACs Republicans and Democrats thus raised about $210 million this election cycle, with the parties on somewhat equal footing as they head into the final weeks of the election, the Examiner reported.
