David Horowitz: Make DC Sex Pests Pay Their Own Settlements

Misbehaving members of Congress should be forced to foot the bill for sexual harassment settlements and not make taxpayers shell out for their sins, David Horowitz, the best-selling author of "Big Agenda" tells Newsmax TV.

"I support the bill that would ban the use of taxpayer funds to pay off sexual harassment complaints," Horowitz, founder of The David Horowitz Freedom Center, told "America Talks Live" host Miranda Khan on Monday.

Legislation is now being proposed to outlaw secret payments that have been made to those accusing politicians on Capitol Hill of harassment.

The payment system was bared as revelations emerged Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., the longest-serving current House member, quietly forked over $27,000 to settle a staffer's complaint about unwanted sexual advances.

The payoff, reported by BuzzFeed, came with a cagey legal agreement the accuser had to sign promising to keep her allegations, as well as the settlement, a confidential matter.

"That is a total abuse of power," Horowitz said. "If John Conyers is accused of sexual harassment, he has to make a settlement. Let him take it out of his own pocket, not out of the taxpayers' pocket."

That said, Horowitz is not sure the system will change anytime soon.

"The swamp is so corrupt, you know there's not much that's going to happen," Horowitz, editor of the conservative Frontpage Magazine, told Khan. "Congress has spent $17 million, there are 280 abused women, women abused by sitting congressmen over the years.

"Come on. They're all going to cover for each other, which is what is going on. The big question is how does it fall out politically?"

The Washington Post reported earlier this month Congress has quietly forked over $17.2 million of taxpayer funds in settlements to victims for various violations, including sexual harassment.

Incredibly, 25 settlements were made in 2007. And eight hush-hush deals have already been struck this year, according to the Post, which says the money comes from a special Treasury Department account set up in 1995 for such matters.

Horowitz's book, "Big Agenda: President Trump's Plan to Save America," The New York Times bestseller, is published by Humanix Books.
