Trump: My Policies Would Have Prevented 9/11

Donald Trump says his immigration policies would have prevented the 9/11 hijackers from being in the country and thus prevented the attacks that killed 3,000 Americans on Sept. 11, 2001.

"I am extremely, extremely tough on illegal immigration. I'm extremely tough on people coming into this country," Trump told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace. "I believe that if I were running things, I doubt those families would have – I doubt that those people would have been in the country."

According to the Federation for Immigration Reform, at least three of the 19 hijackers were in the country illegally, though all had initially entered legally.

Trump on Friday told Bloomberg News that while he doesn't blame President George W. Bush for the attack that happened less than 8 months into his presidency, they did happen on his watch.

"Jeb said, 'We were safe with my brother.' 'We were safe,'" Trump of his GOP presidential rival Jeb Bush.

"Well, the World Trade Center just fell down. Now, am I trying to blame him? I'm not blaming anybody. But the World Trade Center came down. So when he said, 'We were safe' – that's not safe. We lost 3,000 people."
