The Senate needs to open an investigation into Joe and Hunter Biden because their activities in Ukraine and in connection with energy giant Burisma look "thoroughly corrupt," Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.
"I am frustrated," Cruz told Tuesday's "The Chris Salcedo Show." "As I travel around Texas, around the country, do town halls, and meet with people, the frustration I hear over and over again from Texans is 'how come there is no accountability? How can people violate the law with impunity?'"
With the Bidens, "on the face of it, there is an awful lot of evidence of corruption," Cruz said. "During the whole impeachment trial, I really tried to focus very hard on the central constitutional question before the Senate whether the president has the authority to investigate credible evidence of corruption. I hope we see a full investigation of Burisma and Joe and Hunter Biden. On the face of it, it looks thoroughly corrupt."
Cruz said the Department of Justice should not be partisan and it must follow the law, but that means if one violates the law, they should be held accountable.
He added, it is also "frustrating" the Department of Justice has said it will not investigate the activities of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.
"According to the inspector general report, from the DOJ, he violated the law," Cruz said. "It's really frustrating to see him not be held responsible. I don't have a good answer. There was a little bit of speculation online that the DOJ had tried to take it to a DC grand jury, and it's not been able to get an indictment."
"I don't know that that's the case," he added. "If that's the case, it would be good to know."
Cruz also commented on President Donald Trump's pardons of former New York Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik, his commutation for former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, and his order of clemency for financier Michael Milken.
"The Constitution gives the pardon power precisely because, with the justice system, sometimes you have sentences that are excessive," Cruz said. "I don't know the facts, but hopefully they're focused on the facts and circumstances of what happened."
