Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, riled "Seinfeld" star Jason Alexander last week when the senator referenced the show to insult a Democratic candidate for president, which started a back-and-forth between the two on Twitter.

Last week, Cruz likened the presidential campaign of Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., to "a 'Seinfeld' campaign – about nothing," a reference to the show's longstanding joke about its lack of plot.

Sen. Cruz tweeted last Thursday:

"Michael Bennet's campaign is a 'Seinfeld' campaign — about nothing — that typifies the Left's empty rage in 2020. In a decade in the Senate, he's done very little . . . but he did stomp his foot & yell at me on Senate floor (which he features in fundraising emails)."

In response, Alexander tweeted a reference to an episode in which his "Seinfeld" character, George Costanza, fails in an attempt to tell a joke to his colleagues.

Alexander tweeted on Monday:

"So [Cruz] has called [Bennet] a '"Seinfeld" campaign,' claiming it's about nothing. I've met Bennett. He is a great man and real choice for POTUS. As for Cruz – the jerk store called and they're running out of you. I say, the faster the better."
