Katherine Hayhoe, a leading climate scientist, is sharing knowledge with a community that is sometimes at odds with scientists: her fellow evangelical Christians.

But for the co-director of the Texas Tech University Climate Center and professor in the Department of Political Science in the College of Arts & Sciences, doing so has brought criticism and hate from people who say she is spreading Satan's lies, reports The Washington Post.

"We are warning people of the consequences of their choices, and that's what prophets did," she told the Post, and "you get the same thing that prophets have gotten throughout history."

"What is from God is the rest of the verse: a spirit of power," she said, referring to Paul's letter. "Power is empowerment. The ability to act."

Hayhoe has appeared at conferences and built followings on Twitter, TED.com and YouTube. She spreads information about climate change through discussions on faith. She is also a lead author on the 2018 U.S. National Climate Assessment published by the U.S. Global Change Research Program and has participated in the Nobel Peace Prize forum.

Her TED Talk on climate solutions has racked up more than 1.5 million views.

"We all care about our families," Hayhoe told a House Budget Committee in early June. "We care about our communities. We care about people who are suffering today — poverty, hunger and more. And those are the exact values we need to care about a changing climate."
