Nagmeh Abedini, the wife of American Christian pastor Saeed Abedini, said Saturday that she was receiving little hope from Obama administration officials that her husband would soon be released from an Iranian prison.
"I was told also by our government officials that they were hoping Iran would act in good faith and release him, but they were wrong," Abedini told Uma Pemmaraju on Fox News.
"They're not giving me any hope that they can get him out any time soon.
"Iran is not interested in releasing him," she said.
Saturday marked the third anniversary of Saeed Abedini's imprisonment by Tehran on charges of holding private religious gatherings. He is an Iranian American.
This week, he was Tased and threatened with additional charges, his wife said. She marked the anniversary by participating in a prayer vigil in her home city of Boise, Idaho. The day was marked by 810 vigils in 38 countries.
"Today was very difficult," she told Fox. "It’s been a long journey, but it doesn't seem to be nearing the end."
