U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Sunday called for an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting over the escalating situation between Ukraine and Russia.
"An emergency Security Council meeting has been called for tomorrow at 11:00am," Haley tweeted.
Ukraine late Sunday accused Russia of opening fire on some of its military vessels and said six sailors were injured in the altercation.
Russia, which annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, didn’t confirm or deny using weapons, but the Federal Security Service (FSB) said all necessary measures were used to stop the Ukrainians after three of their Navy ships crossed into a temporary off-limits section of Russian territorial waters.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Ukraine resorted to “bandit methods” toward Russia.
