Rubio Compares Obamacare to the Denver Broncos

Wednesday, 05 February 2014 01:08 PM EST

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has compared the chances of Obamacare becoming a winner to people in Denver who were praying that the Broncos would come back from a huge deficit to win the Super Bowl.

The Republican senator was appearing in front of the House Oversight Committee to discuss the mandates in the Affordable Care Act requiring the government to bailout insurance companies if they incur heavy losses due to the healthcare reform law, according to The Washington Free Beacon.

And in his opening testimony, he said, “I know that there are still some who hold out hope that Obamacare will work, just like there were some in Denver this Sunday still holding out hope that the Broncos could come back and win in the fourth quarter.”

The Broncos were down by 28 points to the Seattle Seahawks at the end of third quarter and everyone, with the possible exception of a handful of diehard Denver fans, had written them off. The Broncos ended up losing 43-8.

Rubio, who is seen as a potential candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, appears to be clearly stating that there’s no chance for an Obamacare comeback either.

In November, Rubio labeled the “hidden” bailout clause — or risk corridor provision — the “dirty little secret” of President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law.

The provision mandates that the government has to pay up to 80 percent of any losses incurred by a healthcare insurance company. The segments were added to the law to prevent companies pushing up the price of patient premium in an attempt to recover their losses.
