Beleaguered GOP Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore is trailing Democrat Doug Jones by 12 points in a poll conducted by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Politico reports.

Jones is ahead 51 to 39 percent. The poll was taken Sunday and Monday.

Moore has been battling allegations reported last week by The Washington Post he had sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl decades ago when he was in his 30s and pursued romantic relationships with three other teenagers.

A fifth accuser came forward Monday saying Moore, now 70, sexually assaulted her in the 1970s.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called on Moore to drop his candidacy, saying he believes the women who accused Moore. Moore has denied the allegations.

The NRSC survey found that Moore's favorability has dropped to 35 percent compared to 49 percent in October before the allegations.

Politico on Tuesday reported that the Republican National Committee was withdrawing its support for Moore and stepping away from a joint agreement to raise funds for him. It was also canceling a program for sending canvassers into the field before the special election on Dec. 12.

NRSC Chairman Cory Gardner told reporters Tuesday that if Moore wins, "the Senate should vote to expel him because he does not meet the ethical and moral requirements of the United States Senate."
