The Reagan Presidential Library and Hollywood-based special effects technicians are unveiling a hologram version of the 40th president — recreating three separate scenes from his lifetime, The Washington Post reported.
In one shown Wednesday at the late president's namesake library west of Los Angeles, a smiling Ronald Reagan waves to a crowd from aboard a rail car in 1984, the Post reported.
"We think we made a good beginning, but you ain't seen nothin' yet!" the high-tech digital reincarnation exclaims, a twinkle in his eye, the Post reported.
Reagan, who died in 2004, also shows up in a suit and tie inside the Oval Office, and clutching a lasso alongside his dog, Victory, at his ranch in two other holograms that will open soon to library visitors.
According to the Post, the audio is edited from remarks Reagan made during his lifetime.
For the president's head, a silicone cast was photographed from various angels with 300 cameras and then digitally "placed" on the body of an actor portraying Reagan in full costume, with backdrops, the Post reported.
Reagan's face comes to life with specific movements of the mouth, nose, eyes, cheeks, and hairline manipulated by computers.
The Hollywood firm Hologram USA helped create the holograms and the stage on which they are projected, the news outlet reported.
"It's fun to think that he's standing in front of us," Joanne Drake, who served as Reagan's chief of staff after the Republican left office following his two terms from 1981 to 1989, told the Post.
Drake, who now serves as chief administration officer of the Reagan Foundation, said future plans include taking the holograms on the road.
"I do think we're going to see Ronald Reagan back in Washington, D.C.," she told the Post.
