Roku has rejected demands to remove the National Rifle Association's TV channel from its line of media streaming devices.

"While the vast majority of all streaming on our platform is mainstream entertainment, voices on all sides of an issue or cause are free to operate a channel. We do not curate or censor based on viewpoint," Roku said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"While open to many voices, we have policies that prohibit the publication of content that is unlawful, incites illegal activities or violates third-party rights, among other things.

"If we determine a channel violates these policies, it will be removed. To our knowledge, NRA TV is not currently in violation of these content policies."

Roku also noted it is not "promoting or being paid to distribute" NRA TV and has no commercial relationship with the controversial pro-firearms group.

The streaming device company and other major tech firms including Apple, Amazon and Google have been under pressure to sever ties with the NRA's channel following the Valentine's Day massacre at a Florida high school in which 17 children and adults were shot dead.

Roku has been the first to respond.

NRA TV describes itself as a "comprehensive" news source on Second Amendment issues, and features stories on firearms and the legal issues surrounding them.
