Former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone in an opinion piece for the Daily Caller said Special Counsel Robert Mueller should be fired, along with the "hyenas … masquerading as objective prosecutors under" him who are investigating the "Clinton-Podesta-Schiff-Democrat Party-Corporate Media fabricated Russia collusion delusion."

Mueller is investigating whether there was any coordination between Trump's campaign team and the Russian government as part of the Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

His team has already charged former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his longtime business partner Rick Gates with conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money and making false statements. George Papadopoulos, a former Trump campaign adviser, has pled guilty to lying to federal investigators about his contacts with figures he thought had links to the Russian government, and Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser, pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about conversations with Russia's ambassador.

Trump in mid-December said he had no intention of firing Mueller despite pressure from some colleagues to do so.

Stone said Trump must "completely disempower and dismantle Robert S. Mueller's fraudulent rogue prosecution gang" and "use every resource at his disposal to prosecute the almost-seditious abuses of power by lawless Clinton-Obama FBI and NSA apparatchiks."
