Rod Blagojevich's Wife Bashes Obama, Turns to Trump

(Fox News' "The Story")

The wife of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is pleading for the Trump administration to look at her husband's case as he serves a prison sentence of 14 years for corruption.

Patti Blagojevich was on Fox News on Thursday night and compared her husband's situation, for which he was sentenced in 2011, to that of a former Chicago police officer who was sentenced to less than seven years for second-degree murder of a 17-year-old stemming from a 2014 officer-involved shooting. Prosecutors are now taking another look at that sentencing.

"The [Jason] Van Dyke sentence highlights the corruption in my husband's trial," Blagojevich said. "My husband is serving 14 years, like you said, for conversations with his staff about fundraising, and the penalty for second-degree murder conviction is just six years?

"The prosecutors even asked the judge to sentence my husband to 20 years. Why would they do that? Because they wanted to bury my husband – and the truth about what they did to our family – so deep, it would never come out."

Blagojevich blamed the Obama administration's Department of Justice for pursuing her husband, which she said "destroyed my family by creating fake stories and fake crimes with unprecedented raids and sensational news conferences."

Blagojevich said she was glad to hear President Donald Trump mention her husband's case last year, referencing the fact the family would like to see Rod Blagojevich pardoned or have his sentence commuted.

"When President Obama had the opportunity to write this wrong that's been done to my family, he actually wimped out," she said.
