Investigators for special counsel Robert Mueller are looking into the communications and political dealings of John Hannah, who served as a top national security aide to Dick Cheney, the Daily Beast is reporting.

Hannah later worked on the State Department transition team after Donald Trump was elected president, the website noted.

The Daily Beast noted Hannah has not been accused of any wrong doing.

But the Mueller team is reportedly scrutinizing Hannah’s interactions with Lebanese-American businessman George Nader, who the Daily Beast said brokered meetings between foreign dignitaries and team Trump. Nader had worked with Hannah during the George W. Bush administration on Iraq policy, the website reported, attributing the information to four people.

The Daily Beast also said investigators also are looking into Hannah’s ties to Joel Zamel, a self-proclaimed social media expert, who reportedly has ties to Israeli intelligence.

The website reported that all three met with a top general from Saudi Arabia before Trump was sworn in to discuss plans to undermine and overthrow the government of Iran.

Representatives for Hannah, Nader and Zamel did not comment on the Daily Beast story. The special counsel’s office also did not comment

Investigators have questioned Nader about his ties to officials in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and his interactions with the Trump campaign, the Daily Beast said. Zamel has reportedly been questioned about his role pitching campaign officials on an influence operation to help Trump win the election.

“Mueller might be opening another front here,” said John McLaughlin, former acting director of the CIA.  “It could be a separate line of inquiry about efforts to influence the election by foreigners.”
