The Republican National Committee is starting a review of the party's midterm election performance, Politico is reporting.

In addition, the RNC has commissioned a team of outside advisers to aid in developing strategy for the GOP.

RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel, in a letter to members sent earlier this month, said the review will assess "where the party excelled and where we need to improve, especially in the clear underperformance among independent voters that we saw … and offer ideas as to how we do better in the future."

The review will be led by Henry Barbour, a Mississippi RNC committeeman.

According to Politico, Republican officials maintain they are addressing broader concerns due to the results of the midterms, where the party is believed to have underperformed.

And the RNC is putting together the Republican Party Advisory Council. The group's membership includes: Kellyanne Conway, a White House adviser for former President Donald Trump, evangelical leader Tony Perkins, former Arizona Senate candidate Blake Masters, who ran unsuccessfully, Alabama Sen.-elect Katie Britt and Rep.-elect John James of Michigan.

The council is designed to provide new voices to the party and offer guidance on a number of issues, including outreach to minorities and suburban women voters, Republicans say.

"Our party needs to modernize," Masters said. "We're fighting against Big Tech, the media, and now, the Democrats' GOTV [Get Out The Vote] early voting machine. I look forward to working with Ronna to make sure the party effectively supports our candidates and wins big in 2024."

Perkins added: "Americans of faith are the heartbeat of the Republican vote. I have witnessed firsthand how Chairwoman McDaniel understands this, and I am thrilled to continue to work with her to advance these core values."

Meanwhile, Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., said he is "very seriously considering" calls for him to mount a challenge against McDaniel.

"It is time for our party to retool, transform, win back the presidency in 2024, expand our number of Republican held seats in Congress, and elect the maximum number of down ballot races across the country," Zeldin wrote in a letter to the RNC. "The Republican Party needs to be all in to do everything in its power to save America."
