Rick Perry: 'Iran Continues to Be a Bad Neighbor'

By    |   Friday, 14 June 2019 04:55 PM

Energy Secretary Rick Perry said Friday that Iran "continues to be engaged in nefarious acts and terrorism," following President Donald Trump's allegation that the country attacked oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

"It's obvious that Iran continues to be a bad neighbor," Perry said on Fox News Channel's "The Daily Briefing with Dana Perino." "That's how they got into this position to begin with… they can't leave their neighbors alone. They can't continue to be engaged in nefarious acts and terrorism, that is not acceptable behavior. This country's not gonna put up with it, President Trump's not gonna put up with it. The message is very clear. Outside of it, Secretary [of State Mike] Pompeo and [acting Secretary of Defense Patrick] Shanahan, they all have their roles to play in this."

Trump said in an interview on Friday, "Well, Iran did do it… it’s probably got essentially Iran written all over it."

Perry added, "The DOE side of it, I'm here the second-largest facility in the world, and they operate outside of the Texas/Louisiana border. And being able to make sure that no matter what happens in that Strait of Hormuz, the United States is still going to be able to deliver a substantial amount of energy around the world. Ten years ago that wasn't possible. The world has changed. That's the miscalculation Iran makes. They think somehow they can leverage this because historically they were a supplier of energy. The United States supplanted them."
