Sen. Rick Scott: Florida Home 'Swatted' by 'Cowards'

By    |   Thursday, 28 December 2023 01:54 PM EST

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., said Thursday that his home Naples, Florida was "swatted" this week while he was at dinner with his family, an incident that follows several similar swatting events involving high-profile politicians in recent years.

Swatting is the act of contacting local law enforcement and directing them to the home of another person by making a false allegation, such as a crime being committed or a person being in danger.

Scott wrote on social media Thursday: "Last night, while at dinner with my wife, cowards 'swatted' my home in Naples. These criminals wasted the time & resources of our law enforcement in a sick attempt to terrorize my family."

This incident follows other swatting incidents against prominent politicians. Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene, R-Ga., and Rep. Brandon Williams, R-N.Y., reported being swatted on Christmas, and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, a Democrat, was recently the target of a swatting incident, one of many she's endured since being elected in 2021.

Greene has since announced her plans to introduce legislation "to make it much easier for law enforcement to arrest and prosecutors to prosecute these criminals," after the most recent incidents targeting her and her family.
