Florida Gov. Rick Scott is calling on President Donald Trump to provide “immediate action” in rebuilding Tyndall Air Force Base, a training ground that was basically destroyed by Hurricane Michael, USA Today reports.

"I want to make sure it can fulfill its military mission. I am asking for immediate action to rebuild Tyndall so it can become fully operational," Scott told the newspaper in a phone interview on Friday.

Scott also sent a formal letter to the president and to the chairs of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees noting that the base employs about 26,000 Floridians and 3,400 active-duty servicemen. He writes that he “witnessed firsthand the devastation brought to this community and critical military asset by Hurricane Michael” when he toured the base on Thursday, according to Florida Politics.

“Now that I have visited Tyndall and seen the scope of the work ahead, I am requesting that you direct immediate action to dedicate the needed resources, manpower and funding to return Tyndall AFB to full operations as soon as possible,” Scott wrote to Trump. “You have my commitment that the State of Florida will do whatever possible to aid in this important mission.”

“Tyndall serves a critical role in not only the lives of thousands of Floridians, but in the safety, security and strength of the United States of America – it deserves our full and immediate attention following the devastation of Hurricane Michael.”
