Rex Tillerson is rumored to be on his way out, but the secretary of state has denied those reports and ripped a French reporter's suggestion he has submitted his resignation as "ridiculous."

Tillerson was at a State Department press conference with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian when the French reporter asked him if had submitted his resignation, "with an effective date in January."

Tillerson responded with, "that's ridiculous," and called the question ridiculous after the reporter said "thanks" twice.

President Donald Trump in early November said he was unsure whether Tillerson would remain in his post for the rest of Trump's term in the White House and was "not happy" some State Department staff were not supporting his agenda.

"Well, we'll see, I don't know," Trump said when Fox News' Laura Ingraham asked him if he planned to keep Tillerson on board for the rest of his term.

The New York Times said in late November the White House had developed a plan to force Tillerson out and replace him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

Trump called the report "fake news," and Tillerson said the story was "laughable."
