Seventy-three percent of Republicans say news organizations don’t understand them, according to a new Pew Research Center study.
Only 25 percent of GOP members say they are understood by the media.
Here are the highlights of Pew’s study released on Friday:
- 40 percent of Democrats say they are misunderstood by the media, compared to 58 percent who say they are understood.
- 58 percent of all Americans believe news organizations don’t understand people like them, compared to 40 percent who say they are understood.
Meanwhile the number of Republicans who believe they are misunderstood by the media remains generally consistent among those 18 and over. It also remains consistent among those completing various education levels and among males and females.
However, among Democrats there are differences across demographic traits, particularly when it comes to education and age, Pew noted.
The study is based on a survey of 5,035 people conducted from Feb. 22 to March 4, 2018. The margin of error for the full sample is 1.5 percentage points.
