Biden: Republicans Will Impeach Me If They Win

By    |   Friday, 04 November 2022 03:42 PM EDT

President Joe Biden on Thursday warned that Republicans will seek to impeach him if they win the House majority next week.

"I'm already being told if they win back the House and Senate, they're going to impeach me," Biden told a crowd at MiraCosta College near San Diego, California, while stumping for the reelection of Rep. Mike Levin. "I don't know what the hell they're going to impeach me for."

When the crowd laughed, Biden responded: "No, I'm not joking."

"Recently they said, 'We should stop talking about that until we win,'" he added.

Republicans are planning a series of investigations if they take control of Congress, including probes into Biden's business dealings, his son Hunter's business dealings in Ukraine, the president's failure to enforce immigration laws, the administration's botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, and his extension of a moratorium on residential evictions.

Many have called for Biden's impeachment since he took office in 2021, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who in a recent fundraising email wrote: "Joe Biden is guilty of committing high crimes and misdemeanors. And it's time for Congress to IMPEACH, CONVICT, and REMOVE Biden from office."

Greene has introduced five articles of impeachment against Biden. Ten House Republicans have either introduced or sponsored 21 articles of impeachment against Biden and his top officials, according to the The New York Times.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who will likely become House speaker if Republicans win the midterm elections, recently said he didn't "see it before me right now" on whether Biden or any officials in his administration deserved to be impeached.

Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., has also called for impeachment proceedings.

"Whether it is Joe Biden's dereliction of duty at the southern border or his disastrous retreat in Afghanistan, I have called for Joe Biden to answer to the American people in impeachment hearings," Tenney said in a TV ad that ran over the summer.
