Iowa Rep. Steve King on Monday said "the window has passed" for Donald Trump to release his tax returns, and he clarified comments he made last week about being able to work with Hillary Clinton.
King said on MSNBC's
"Morning Joe" morning show that Trump will not release his returns, and at this stage of the game, that's the correct move.
"If he were going to do that he should have done that some months ago so that there was time to digest it," King said on Morning Joe. "If he drops it now into this presidential intense sprint around the final turn part of the race, I think that would be the only discussion we’d hear all the way until November, judging by the way the media has treated him in the last few weeks."
King also clarified comments he made last week when he said
Clinton was someone he could work with. Despite the bulk of his comments that were pro-Trump and his support for the GOP nominee, the one Clinton comment is the one that made the rounds in the media.
"I'll disagree with almost everything Hillary Clinton is for and if she's elected president, many of us are going to have to turn this up, use the power of the purse to restrain this over-exuberant leftist president with little regard for the constitution," King said on the morning show.
However, King said:
"If it's just Hillary Clinton in a room with no staff and no press, she is someone I could work with to this extent: she does understand policy, you can talk business with her," King said. "I found those discussions to be reasonable, policy-based because there was no one in the room listening."
