Rand Paul To Seek Re-Election to Second Term

Rand Paul To Seek Re-Election to Second Term

By    |   Saturday, 25 May 2013 04:20 PM

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul will seek re-election to Congress in 2016 — but he’s not ruling out a run for the White House that year, either.

“For now, we know for sure is we're going to run for the U.S. Senate," Paul said on Friday at the Republican Party Reagan Dinner of Woolford County, Ky., according to The Daily Independent in Ashland. "The other decision can come later."

The first-term Republican told reporters before the dinner that, for now, he was only certain about seeking a second Senate term.

Paul’s comments come making visits this year to such early primary or caucus states as Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, The Hill reports.

His decision on a second Senate bid, however, does not close the door on a presidential bid that same year.

Under Kentucky law, Paul couldn’t run for both the Senate and president on the same ballot, but state lawmakers are examining whether to make changes to that law, the Hill reports.

He also could simply not place his name on the presidential primary ballot in Kentucky.
